Integrative Nutrition Blog

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition is one of New York's best resources for wellness education, and now you can check out all the cutting-edge IIN news on their new blog! The institute teaches students how to take care of themselves and certifies them as holistic health counselors, bringing together the most eminent speakers in the fields of nutritional science, natural healing, and global change. We love the socially-conscious, urban-centered fodder from head honcho Joshua Rosenthal, from the benefits of eating greens to the current American health crisis. And if you are interested in attending IIN, contact us about info and discounts - we're both graduates!

Super Hero Smoothie Recipe

Citywellness (me and Aarona) just returned from a fantastic retreat at magical Eden Hot Springs, Arizona, where we ate divine raw food courtesy of genius living-foods chef Elaina Love. During a "un"-cooking demo, Elaina showed us how to make her signature Super Hero smoothie. It's so delicious we just had to let y'all know about it too! I make this power-beverage every morning now, and drink it as my brain food at work. Try it out and let us know what you think!
Recipe:
(for one)
3 T hemp seeds
1 1/2 C water
1 T goji berries/powder
1 T cacao nibs/powder
2 t maca powder (be careful, this is an aphrodisiac!)
1 T green powder (should have sea and land greens in it)
4 dates/1 t of sweetener of your choice
1 t cinnamon
pinch of fresh vanilla bean (optional)
Blend everything together until you have a smooth consistency. The smoothie is thinner than you might expect - more like a dense green-chocolate milk.
Details:
This smoothie includes all the essential daily nutrients - hemp carries healthy fats and protein,
goji berries are high in anti-oxidants, cacao is an energy-boosting re-mineralizer, maca strengthens the immune systems, and the greens cleanse your blood! Even cinnamon helps lower blood sugar. . . you can also make the recipe with nut milk and fresh fruit for an equally satisfying meal. You can pick up the ingredients at most health food stores, or check out SunFood for the highest quality raw food products.

A fun, sweet, yogic experience - this month's 'Yoga Soundscape' is excited to be hosted by one of the most spiritual & incredible art galleries around - CoSm! Combined with Aarona's nurturing guidance, you'll experience a breath-filled yoga class rich with aligning freedom & challenging overtones woven into a sweaty creative flow - a true hybrid of various yoga styles! Finally, you'll be smothered by a sound healing Savasana ritual, sure to blast open your heart & mind. And stay afterwards to view the epic art gallery of Alex Grey!
